Health in Prisons: Quality Standards, Current Practices, and Conditions in the Central Region of Colombia
(Funded by International Committee for the Red Cross)
Project Details:
In Colombia, Red Cross wanted to identify gaps in health prevention and promotion in prisons. As with the Gang Violence in Hondura study - RREAL needed to design a robust academic study that took into account the difficult environment.
This was an unprecedented project consisting of three studies:
1. A review of gold standard practice guidelines for health provision in prisons.
2. A Qualitative Rapid Appraisal visiting sixteen prisons in Colombia. And 3. A descriptive epidemiological analysis of health service provision in forty detention centres between 2022-2023.
Findings directly informed Red Cross aid practices.
